Date: October, 2012
Venue: Fresno City College, Main Stage
Collaborators: Charles Erven (Director), Debra Erven (Costume Designer), (Costumes), Jeff Barrett (Sound Design/Technical Direction)
My Role: Scenery and Lighting Designer
Description:
Director Charles Erven asked his design team to create a modern film noir for Theresa Rebeck’s contemporary play about the high-stake’s world of big-time stamp collecting. To smoothly transition between the stamp shop, the dining room and the cafe, I created a slip stage in the central portion of the shop to move scenery in and out, and two tracking walls to hide some of the walls of the stamp shop.
“It’s all played out against another one of Fresno City College’s strong production designs. Christopher R. Boltz’s ingenious set includes a middle “window” of sorts in which different settings slide in and out of view, and his lighting design provides a faintly grim, moody atmosphere. (I felt like the whole play unfolded on overcast winter days.) ” — Donald Monro, Fresno Bee
